The beginning of the industrial extraction of fossil fuels led to the replacement of biomass as mankind's most important energy source. Today, the utilisation of biomass as a renewable raw material is enjoying a renaissance. In addition to the traditional use for heating purposes, new technologies such as the generation of biogas are setting the trend. The utilisation of biogenic residues such as liquid manure and of organic waste represent interesting concepts both ecologically and economically. The use of bioenergy as a fuel will continue to gain importance.

The success of a biomass project depends not only on functioning technology: This is a basic requirement. The actual challenge lies in securing a supply of raw materials over the long term. Usually, a regional approach leads to the desired results here.

RENERCO has been facing up to such challenges since the mid-90s.
